We’re giving a double dose of Jane Carter as she
shares with us her 5 tips to take down. Get your notebooks and pens. Hmm, or just
print it out.
*Jane Carter said…You shouldn't use products with petroleum
because it’s not good for the body or skin, and it is known to have residual effects.
Most traditional product companies use it because it is an inexpensive ingredient.
Go for the paraben free and petra chemical free products. Natural products are the
way to go.

You should be using products that are mostly natural. The thing about synthetic/man
made ingredients is that they are comprised of larger molecules that are harder
to penetrate the hair shaft, so the product basically sits on the hair; especially on natural
hair. Natural based products have smaller molecules that tend to penetrate much
easier. This is a very important point for those with locs, because the frequency
of hair cleansing is usually just once a month. Therefore there are fewer times
for locked hair to get the benefits of natural shampoos and conditioners. If that is the case for you, keep your distance from garbage
products.

Is mixing products dangerous? Not necessarily. However, if you do not have enough
information about the product you’re using, it will be difficult to disseminate
what products work best with others, and what do not. For example, if your salon
uses a gel for twists, they should not add Jane Carter Solutions’ Nourish and Shine,
it would be defeating the purpose. In a nutshell, you have to know some things about
your products, which will help in knowing what type of combinations work best for
you.
*Jane Carter said…Essential oils are made up of tiny molecules, and if exposed to
air, it will eventually evaporate and leave the vitamins of the oil behind.
Take the paper bag test to see what she means: Using a brown paper bag,
put a few drops of an essential oil on it, and in almost no time, it will evaporate and will not
leave an oil spot at all.
Essential oils should not be used alone because it is
concentrated
and very potent. Essential oils are to be used with a carrier oil, something heavier,
i.e. almond oil, olive oil, etc.
*Jane Carter said…Hair is not dry for lack of oil. Hair is dry for lack of moisture,
which involves…water. Mix your oil of choice with a water based leave in conditioner.
A Jane Carter Solution Suggestion…or Two
1. Washing your hair once a month is like
washing your face once a month. Where does your face stop and your scalp start!
Try out Scalp Renew before you shampoo. It addresses the scalp as a separate issue
from cleansing the hair. It’s like getting an exfoliating facial, but for the scalp.
2. For dry scalp or dandruff, try Scalp Nourshing Serum. It is a good maintenance
follow
up to the Scalp Renew treatment.
